ELTE BTK Alföldy Géza Lecture Hall (1088 Budapest, Múzeum körút 4., Building B 117.)
Javier Velaza (Universitat de Barcelona) is giving a guest lecture at the invitation of the ELTE Latin Department.
More than three thousand inscriptions on a wide range of material supports, evidence for at least seven different languages, no fewer than ten local writing systems alongside adaptations of the Greek and Latin alphabets: all of this makes up the complex mosaic of the scripts and languages recorded in the Iberian Peninsula between the 7th century BCE and the 1st century CE. This lecture will present an overview of this reality, placing special emphasis on the most recent discoveries.
